What do you think about this?

This past weekend the dog and some members of the TAP family had a mini debate about a news report in Friday's express(15th may). The report stated that the government made a decision to implement a new system for students to receive their SEA results via sms. All of this at a cost of $100,000TT, which some members of TAP argued is a small price to pay while trying to achieve first world status. Others argued that it is a waste of money and could be put to better use.

I think it is a convenient advancement, well suited the times of development. However, seeing as governments have allowed the divide between rich and poor to grow so unchecked, and poverty, crime and unemployment are maintaining high numbers; in the grand scheme of things this government has proven to me that they are unable to truly access and understand the plight of its people, and so they are incapable of providing what we need as a society. This administration and past ones have rediculed intelligent law abiding, hard working citizens for far too long. And it is our society's inability to accept change and innovation which has left us in the position that we are now; led by Greedy, Old men and women with old ideas, fat pockets and blind eys. This money would have been better suited promoting a nationwide street cleaning program; providing work to the unskilled unemployed, building the average man's confidence and overall consumer confidence in the long run. Young Change is necessary for Life... Virtuous leaders for Positive movement.

I am in two minds, it is a small amount, but is it necessary? It is convenient but is it significant?

When I read this, I couldn't believe it either.

SMS SEA results is an absolute disregard for privacy. Mobile phones can be stolen, or used by someone else, therefore, someone wanting to hide their poor results, would not be able to.

The egregious waste of money is another story by itself.

Also, I have not been living in Trinidad since CXC in 2002, so maybe I am a bit out of touch with our technological advancements home... but how many 11 year olds in Trinidad have a cell phone?
